According to the National Gallery's official website, users can "keep in touch" through mailing lists, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, podcasts, YouTube, RSS feeds, and their iPhone application.  Each page has a "+share" icon at the bottom where an extra 337 apps are supported.  No formal social media policy was mentioned in the site but a "Access Statement" was provided that identified the National Gallery's commitment to the "widest possible access to the national collection."

The Getty Museum

Los Angeles, CA

Museum Analytics lists the following statistics:
Facebook
     175,086 Page Likes
     848 New Page Likes (+3.67%)
     0 Posts (-100%)
     24 Comments (+20%)

Twitter

     330 Mentions (-14.29%)

According to the Getty Museum site, users can connect with the museum through its blog, YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr, Art Babble, Whyville and e-newsletters.  The usual "+share" icon is at the bottom of each page to share content with over 300 other applications.  The site did not mention a social media policy, but I found a Twitter Evaluation done by the Getty. This is an insightful document into how a museum evaluates its use of social media to reach its audiences.
